How to promote your new song: a simple plan you can start today

A great song still needs people to hear it. Here is a practical plan that works for independent artists at any level.

Start before release day

Tell people a song is coming at least two weeks ahead. Share short clips of the studio, the lyrics or the story behind the track. The goal is to give your followers a reason to be waiting when the song drops.

Make it easy to press play

Use one clean link that takes people straight to the song. Put it in your bio, your WhatsApp status and every post. Every extra tap loses listeners, so keep the path short.

Show up in short videos

Short vertical clips are one of the fastest ways to reach new listeners. Pick the strongest 15 to 30 seconds of the song and film a few different ideas: a dance, a lyric moment, a behind-the-scenes look. Post consistently for the first two weeks.

Talk to real people

Send the song personally to friends, other artists, DJs, bloggers and radio presenters. A short, polite message with the link and one line about the song gets a better reply than a mass broadcast.

Use your community

Ask supporters to share the song with one person each. Thank everyone who does it in public. Small circles of fans grow into bigger ones.

Artist tipsBy the Blessed Records team

Release-day checklist: 8 things to sort before you publish your music

Most release problems can be avoided with a little preparation. Run through this list before you upload.

1. A finished mix and master

Play the final version on a phone, in a car and on headphones. If it sounds good everywhere, it is ready.

2. Cover art that looks great small

Most people will see your artwork as a small square on a phone. Check that the title is readable at a thumbnail size. Distributors usually ask for a large square image, so keep the original file.

3. Correct song details

Double-check the song title, artist name and spelling before upload. Fixing mistakes afterwards can be slow.

4. Credits and rights

Write down everyone who worked on the song and agree who owns what before release. Clear agreements now prevent arguments later.

5. A release date with time to spare

Upload a few weeks before your chosen date so the song is ready everywhere on time and you have days to promote.

6. One link for everything

Keep a single link where fans can listen. Use it everywhere.

7. A plan for the first week

Decide what you will post each day of release week so you are never stuck at the last minute.

8. A way to keep your fans

Ask listeners to join your mailing list or follow you so you can tell them about your next release directly.
